U.S. Fly Fishing Championship Qualifier coming to Brevard in February

The 2012 Southeast Regional Qualifier will be held February 17th – 19th on and around the fabled waters of the Davidson River near Brevard, NC. This year’s regional will feature 32 anglers from 10 states, some travelling to the event from as far away as Wyoming!

Please note: All competition water will be closed to competitors as of December 20th, 2011.

Competition Headquarters

Davidson River Outfitters, the Hampton Inn, and the old Ecusta Parking area will serve as competition headquarters for the event. View these locations in relationship to one another here.

Catch and Release Waters of the Davidson River

Eight beats placed between the confluences of Looking Glass Creek and Avery Creek. Wild brown and rainbow trout inhabit these waters, many exceeding 20 inches. This venue is located within the boundaries of the Pisgah National Forest. (Approx. GPS 35.17528,-82.46267 to 35.17271, -82.44214). View the map here.

Practice waters include all water above the confluence with Looking Glass Creek.

Private Water of Davidson River Outfitters

Competitors at the 2011 Winter Stonefly Classicwill have an opportunity to fish some of the best private water in the state, courtesy of Kevin Howell and Davidson River Outfitters! This private stretch of the Davidson is inhabited by large rainbow and brown trout and is fishable only by appointment. Practice waters include the hatchery supported waters above DRO, extending to the confluence with Avery Creek.

East Fork of the French Broad

Eight beats placed within the boundaries of the Delayed Harvest waters of the East Fork. This venue is located within the boundaries of the Pisgah National Forest. Both wild trout and stocked trout (managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission) inhabit these waters. (Approx. GPS 35.132852,-82.792121 to 35.135023,-82.776232) View the map here.

Tanassee Creek Reservoir

This venue is located within the boundaries of the Pisgah National Forest, with a public boat dock provided courtesy of Duke Energy. Stocked rainbow and brown trout, managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, inhabit this lake. View the map here.

Practice waters include Wolf Creek Lake, located just a short drive past Tanassee.
